Obelisk of Light

Captured with a Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL and 18mm lens at f/11 for 1/125s and 200 ISO.

So this is one of the South-East entrances to Vari Hall at about 9am. The one really nice thing about getting closer to winter is that the sun is always just a little bit lower in the sky. That gives me some really nice lighting by the time I get to school in the morning. Funny thing is tho, about 90 minutes after I took this photo and looked up at the sky again, it was totally overcast... Gross.

I'm really starting to fall for the whole black and white thing, cause it allows for an unhindered perception of value and contrast in a scene. I was trying to keep all the detail in the dark areas, but get them as dark as I could to create a contrast between the shadow and the lit areas. Thoughts anybody?

edit: If you can't just barely distinguish about 5 patches of different values on the ground, then you need to go and have your display calibrated. I just thought of this cause I'm starting more and more to push onto the boundaries of what the eye is capable of seeing... and if you monitor doesn't show you what I want it to show, then the entire point of a photo like this is lost.
