Big Dreams

Captured with a Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL and 300mm lens at f/6.3 for 1/800s and 100 ISO.

So I figured that the beach at the foot of Liverpool would be a good spot to spy on people due to the whole Canada Day thing a few days ago... I think I was right.

On really long lenses: sometimes 300mm of telephoto power is for more than just sniping. I could have easily walked right behind this kid and taken a photo, but it would not have the same feel that this one does. The long lens compresses the depth in the image, and makes the water look a lot larger than it would in a normal focal length. But this length does come with other costs. If you ever consider buying a really cheap 70-300mm lens, think again. You do get what you pay for, and that most often is a lot of blooming. I tried to cover it up by screening a blurred high-pass to make it look a bit dreamier. Did it work out?

Another thing of note: It was really really hard to choose a photo for today. I actually posted two other photos before this one and then quickly pulled them down. I'm trying to maintain a certain level of visual appeal in my daily photography, but it's sometimes really hard to do so. Oh well. Tommarrow I get to walk to work at 8am, so maybe I'll get some nice light spilling onto, something?

edit: it's becoming more and more obvious that this photo blog is not just about the photography. I guess I dont need to put up the real blog that I was planning in the next week, cause I can do it all here anyways.
